Manuscript Assessment: A Good Place to Start
Manuscript Assessment consists of a close read-through of your entire piece and combines the best elements of having a good beta reader with a manuscript evaluation.
After reading your work, Claire provides a written overview, which will include feedback about what’s working, what might be challenging for your reader, and suggestions to help clarify or strengthen your work.
Rates are hourly, based on length and estimated project completion time.

Immersion Editing: Ready for the Next Step
First, you need to know that Claire is a different kind of editor. Editing can be a very personal experience for an author. Claire's goal is to provide you with the most polished manuscript possible, in as few rounds of edits as we can manage together.
Claire practices Immersion Editing, which you can read about here. Immersion Editing is a process codified by Claire's close colleague, editor Angela Weichmann.
Immersion Editing combines several levels of editing into one seamless process:
• Developmental edit helps shape the big picture
• Content edit strengthens every sentence and paragraph
• Copyedit polishes mechanics
• Collaborative writing supports your skills
• Coaching encourages and empowers you
• Consultation to support your publishing plans
Claire's editing combines line edits and developmental editing; it consists of a thorough, in-depth reading of your piece as well the option to have close collaboration as you work through the input she offers.
You’ll receive line-by-line feedback through Track Changes in a Microsoft Word or Google document, including suggestions about shortening, clarifying, or deepening your piece.
This may include word changes, suggestions about rearranging the order of the piece, and/or identifying story gaps. As Claire edits, she'll be looking at technical aspects of the work, such as word tense and subject/verb agreement.
Rates are per word; a full and complete contract specifying rate will be provided before work commences.

• whether your piece is fiction or non-fiction
• the topic or genre of the piece
• approximate word count
• any deadlines you’re facing.
You can also select a time for an initial, complimentary Zoom consultation to determine whether we're a good fit for working together.
Once we decide it’s a go, Claire will provide a copy of Ignite's Service Agreement with all the details of our working relationship.
After that’s done, once Ignite receives your retainer, it’s off to the races!
