The Ignite Workshop Difference

Looking for a workshop?

When you join Ignite’s community of committed writers, you'll find support, structure, accountability, flexibility, and the inspiration you need to progress your project.

Say YES to:

A creative and supportive community

Small, live group meetings over Zoom

Learning craft by talking with other writers

Getting your words on the page

Say NO to:

Damaging workshopping

Harsh "critique" (which can take years to recover from)

People telling you what you “should” do in your writing

Pre-recorded videos you’ll never actually use

Want to light your fire? Start here!

The truth is, not all books are for all people. Even if you write the next masterpiece—a book that takes the world by storm—you'll still have critics.

Critics are one of the things that make writing so difficult, and our own inner critic is often one of the most difficult to surmount.

Another challenge is the solitary nature of the work. Even an introvert by nature needs some connection with other humans.

However, those humans need to be the right humans! At the early stages of a project, you don't actually need "feedback," which is often just poorly concealed criticism.

In Ignite's workshops you'll find encouragement, community, accountability, and input from other writers (when you want it).

You'll experience the support that comes from simply being witnessed, which is something we all need. Deep listening, the opportunity to ask questions about your own work, and the chance to get to know and support other people's work—all of that happens in small, live Zoom groups.

If your goal is to finish an early draft of a project, forward progress is the only way to make that happen; "feedback" isn't the most useful. While the future is informed by the past, the way to progress is to push forward, not to continually look back and tweak what you’ve already done—save that for the editing, which comes later!

Save the criticism for a later draft. Don't worry, there's no shortage of people who will line up to "critique" and offer "feedback." You just won't find them in an Ignite generative workshop!
